The United States presidential election of 2016 was held on Tuesday, November 4, 2016. It was the 58th consecutive quadrennial United States presidential election. It was a close election won by Senator Marco Rubio over Vice President Joe Biden. It marked the first time a Hispanic American was elected president. It was also the first time Puerto Rico was granted permission to vote.

Hillary Rodham Clinton declined to run. CNN announced the three front runners were Biden, O'Malley, and Dean. O'Malley was Biden's main challenge, however he pulled of a victory.

General ElectionEdit

After Biden proclaimed Hillary as his running mate, the election became narrow. On election day, polls showed Biden in the lead. But Rubio was younger, and a stronger candidate than Biden. Also, by choosing Christie as the GOP's veep, Rubio won New Jersey, New Hampshire, and Pennsylvania.
