Please note this page is not complete. filling in data for the candidates. The United States Presidential Election, 2020 was held on November 3, 2020. Incumbent President Hillary Clinton ran for re-election, despite being unpopular due to a Third Iraq War, countless terror attacks against the US, NSA surveillance, denial of CIA torture of American citizens suspected of terror with no actual evidence, among other things. She faced stiff competition from her own party in semi-contested Democratic Primaries for the first time since 1980. She came close to losing her re-nomination bid for the first time since Lyndon B. Johnson did since 1968. As such, she decided to create her own party, the Liberal Party, and run under that banner along with Elizabeth Warren. This was also the first time the President elected was neither Democratic nor Republican since Zachary Taylor was elected President in 1848. It was also the first time both the President and Vice President lost re-election under different party banners in American history, and the first time the President lost re-election since George H. W. Bush lost re-election in 1992. This election guaranteed doom for the Republican Party, as they never participated in any elections after this.

Background

Article Two of the United States Constitution provides that for a person to be elected and serve as President of the United States, the individual must be a natural-born citizen of the United States, at least 35 years old, and a resident of the United States for a period of no less than 14 years. Candidates for the presidency typically seek the nomination of one of the various political parties of the United States, in which case each party devises a method (such as a primary election) to choose the candidate the party deems best suited to run for the position. The primary elections are usually indirect elections where voters cast ballots for a slate of party delegates pledged to a particular candidate. The party's delegates then officially nominate a candidate to run on the party's behalf. The general election in November is also an indirect election, where voters cast ballots for a slate of members of the Electoral College; these electors in turn directly elect the President and Vice President.

The incumbent, Hillary Clinton, was actively seeking re-election, but faced competition from her own party, and was defeated in the general election by John Kasich and Tim Kaine.
