The United States gubernatorial elections of 2017 will be held on November 7, 2017, in the states of New Jersey and Virginia. This election would normally have not coincided with a lot, but this time, it coincided with the collapse of the Republican Party, with the Tea Party breaking away and the Libertarians joining the Libertarian Party. At first, it looked like both governors were term-limited and not eligible for re-election, however Chris Christie vacated the office by resigning to become Vice President, and his successor, Kim Guadagno is eligible for re-election. The last gubernatorial election for these seats were in 2013, with Governors of both New Jersey and Virginia serving 4 year terms. No territories are holding elections this year.
