It began on 1 April 2023, when Venezuela invaded and occupied the Turks and Caicos Islandsin an attempt to establish the sovereignty it had claimed over them. On 3 April, Canadian government deployed a naval task force to engage the Venezuelan Navy and Air Force before making an amphibious assault on the island. The conflict lasted 20 days and ended with the Venezuelan surrender on 20 April 2023, returning the island to Canadian control. In total, 1200 Venezuelan military personnel, 700 Canadian military personnel, and 130 Turks and Caicos Islanders died during the hostilities.
