Rule #1: First find the atom #'s to which other monomers are bound to the monomer under study. Then enclose the monomer in brackets. Following the close-bracket, write the polymer sign n, with the subscript and the superscript being the former and latter inter-monomer binding atom #'s.

The polymerization occurs on the 1 and 3 atoms, so we use 1 and 3 as subscript and superscript, respectively, with the n symbol in between.
