NOTE: Please take a look at Theory:Nomenclature:Branched Hydrocarbons first, to gain an understanding of how to use this page. Nomenclature has various parts to it, and should be studied in order.
Rule #1: Functional group modifiers come at the end of the name, with highest-priority groups at the end. This is except for functional groups in the middle of the molecule (esters and ethers). The priority is assigned as per the original IUPAC conventions.
