Baghdadi Caliphate (2006-2038)[]

Decline of ISIS[]

For information before 2017, see article: Islamic State of Iraq and the Syria.

The general decline of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria was contributed to the increased military presence from both the United States of America led Coalition and the Russian coalition. Although ISIS remained very influential among Wahhabi-Sunni based Muslims, it's overall downfall and collapse was inevitable. In late 2023, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria would proclaim the Baghdadi Caliphate, a federal Islamic Republic that was located in the northern deserts of Iraq and Syria. Based around it's own interpretation of Sharia law, the caliphate at it's height would have a population of 12,583,920. The first caliph would be Abū Bakr al-Baghdadi until his death in 2024, with the last publicly known caliph of the Caliphate would be Abubakar Shekau in 2031.

With many of the Caliph's having died quickly after gaining the leadership role, the Shura Council, the parliamentary of the Caliphate, would begin to not let the world know of whom the Caliph of the Caliphate was. It was only known who the last Caliph was after the successful US invasion of the occupied city of Mosul, and it is assumed that this re-capturing of the city is what led to the Baghdadi Caliphate losing support and influence.

In 2035, the Syrian Civil War had been declared over with the Assad government having re-taken central control over the government, however, as per the treaty signed, the state of Rojava of which the United States had wanted to establish was given independence and was officially recognized by NATO.

Underground operations[]

Not much is known about the Baghdadi Caliphate between 2033-2044, and it was assumed that it had collapsed after the end of the Syrian Civil War. It is assumed that the Caliphate had gone "underground" or had dispersed, with the former being confirmed by a defector of the state in 2042.

Resurgence[]

At 6:57am on May 14th 2044, a string of numerous bombs would be detonated across Baghdad, Iraq. The estimated casualties of these attacks would be confirmed at 4,724, with over 25,000 being injured in the attacks. At 7:00am, a propagandic video would surface re-introducing the Baghdadi Caliphate to the world. At the end of the video, the Caliph, Muhammad Ahmed al-Baghdadi, the son of the first Caliph, would say that the Caliphate takes responsibility for the attack on Baghdad, with the attack having been personally created and executed by himself.
