Talk:Scenario: Possible Events of the Singularity
From Future
GJeremy,
To make this a good scenario page you need to justify more of your assertions!
- Why are dodecahedron's the best shape? Why not spheres?
- Why should I believe they have 1000 times more energy capacity than human cells?
Without some explanation here, why should I suspend disbelief? You could use plant-energy storage mechanisms to maybe give 5x increase, with chemical storage of energy as used in seeds. If you're going fusion power, then 1000x is too low, and I need a lot of convincing. Do you really need 1000x more energy for a thought provoking scenario?
- Turn into honey comb to survive 1 megaton explosion from 300 feet away.
Why a honeycomb? It's a 2D structure, and not particularly strong to compression. Think graphite vs diamond. What you actually want to survive a blast, is something which doesn't absorb the energy itself. Sporulation (into millions of tiny spores) is probably a better strategy for a modular robot about to be hit by a blast.
Some of the strategies you suggest are quite fun, but why would a robot this powerful use them - why adopt conventional animal forms? This is where you need more background on the origins of modular robot. Also what about humans? With just one of these super robots on the planet, we'd soon be extinct...
I think you'd have a better scenario/story if you tone down the power of the robots to much closer to human levels, and then look at the differences that are possible with a modular robot vs human cell biology. Alternatively, if you want to keep the super-powers aspects, give some background that makes it all a bit more convincing? JC 17:09, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
