Talk:RyansWorld: Atheism

From Future

--Wow... basicly "Christianity and Judaism will die out because God isn't cool and everyone will become a budhist or atheist because they are cool"... Insightful... I especially like the idea of converting to an older religion because the newer one is more primitive, but why not Hinduism? After all, it can be interepreted as there being no gods, only a collection of souls that live on. Other than that they're pretty similar, and people seem to be greatly comforted by the idea of the soul, (non-tibetan) Budhists tend to believe that the soul doesn't exist, which blocks a great many conversions. -69.226.193.50 23:31, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

lol! good call. Some major editing is called for. Sorry Ryan...I suggest you start up your own website if what you want to do is vent against religions you don't like and praise the ones you do. I appreciate you may have had bad experiences with Christians or Jews or whatever but that's no excuse for lack of balance in a public forum like this. I'll start by putting a link to an article about Genesis 1...I don't know why this is in here anyway but while it remains some decent commentary is in order. And "For 6000 years, science and technology, in the view of some, has been stagnated partly by God's will"....wtf? Who believes that? Generally the people who believe 'God' has a 'will' don't believe it is against science and technology. 'In the view of some' at least needs quantifying. --NZUlysses 08:49, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Balance

this speculation is interesting, but poorly based and quite flawed. I'm glad you've found your religion in Buddhism, but not everyone will "be Buddhist by 2100." Do you believe yourself to be Nostradamus II? - Anonymous

Throughout history religion has shaped the lives of billions of individuals. There have been many forms of religion all dealing with a supernatural agent called God. To many people God is a force that has infinite knowledge and power. God created the universe and we must do everything he tells us to. But some have come to the conclusion that there is no God. These people are called atheists. Atheists believe all religions are false. Deism is less affirmative in that deists believe we can not know. Religion as it stands has created many conflicts between rival groups because of the disagreement of what the will of God is. Science has become another denomination for witch conflict has emerged because many religions feel threatened by secular society. Atheism has been deemed by many religions the work of the devil even though atheists deny his existence. In America atheism has been grouped with many other forms of secular belief such as liberal, humanism, maxims, materialism, and relativism. Mostly atheism has been viewed negatively. But as science progress this view may change. Progressive atheists such as Richard Dawkins have spoken on the benefits of atheism to society. In his book the God Delusion he tells how religion has been one of the primary factors of human disparity. He is quoted as saying that "People actually believe what they say they believe". If you die in the defense of Islam you will go to heaven. That was what the 9/11 hijackers believed. In our post 9/11 world radical Islamic terrorism has become one of the world primary focuses. Radical Islam has been seen as a threat until 9/11. But now because of it violence in the Middle East has increased. Radical Islam teaches the Muslims have the right to preemptive strikes again the enemy of Islam. For many years children in the Middle East have been taught that America is at war with the Islam religion. The invasion of Iraq has only fueled this tension. As Richard Dawkins has pointed out indoctrination can be a powerful tool for a religious cause. But even thought religious prejudice still exists its grip on society is weakening. When Richard Dawkins wrote his books his intention was to spread awareness of atheism being a good thing. Atheism as it stands is in the same place as the woman’s movement and gay rights. Science is also helping by eating away at the foundations of poverty and ignorance. The Iraq war has shown us that when people misunderstand each other hatred is always the outcome. Once the post-modern world comes into existence people realize that there may be no "black" and "white" levels of morality in society, and that all things could have a certain shade of "gray" in morality. It will be realized that perhaps moral and ethical standards can be acquired logically without reference to the supposed word of a god. The democratic balance of opinion will delineate between the things some like to do that hurt others. Freedoms will be maximized and limitations minimized.

This article is nothing but fanciful thinking. Intellectuals in the eighteenth and nineteenth century thought that without a doubt, by the year 2000, religion would be something of the past; yet we see that decades later, it is actually more powerful than it was back then. The fact is that atheism has always existed; there have always been nonbelievers, and however much they wish so, the advance of science is irrelevant to this. Despite all their rhetoric, atheists become atheists, because of philosophy, not science. With the advance of time, atheism will not become the dominant (for lack of a better word) spiritual belief on the planet, but will simply remain as it always has since the dawn of time. And btw, it is quite naive to think "People actually believe what they say". The 9/11 hijackers were motivated by nationalism, not religion. Did you know that 2 of them visited a strip club on the night of the 10th. Very pious behavior, eh? With the slightest bit of research any intelligent person will understand that it is not 'radical muslims' who are the problem, but the Western imperialists who aid them (ex: The Taliban and al-Qaeda rose to power not because of their religious message, but because Ronald Reagan gave them weapons and intelligence). Go read some Chomsky and educate yourself.
