Talk:Energy

From Future

I met a network tech and market research analyst who predicted that by 2010, "blackout resistance" will be a major issue, and that it will be successfully addressed.

I don't know how, but have a few guesses:

  • Lots of our computing equipment runs on DC, in the end, (after the AC:DC power brick converter,) and that means "batteries."
  • Low power computing and display technology.
  • Prioritization of energy use. We may see things like: "This is high priority use, in event of a power out." "This is low priority."
  • Hand-crank. It's surprising how long you can power a flashlight or a computer, using just a hand crank. I suspect we'll see some places with bicycles as well.
