There is a possibility that societies will gradually become matriarchal; unless a conservative Christian America can transform the CIA into the Ministry of Love and somehow prevent women from gaining more civil rights in the United States of America. A Conservative Christian America would allow police officers to kill alleged suspects instead of prosecuting them and turn firefighters into people who burn buildings and books containing information that would be useful to the cause of matriarchy and global unity.
Less intelligent teenagers are content with basic studies, becoming a househusband and changing their kids' diapers while their smarter peers will colonize Mars in addition to other planets and galaxies. However, a matriarchal society might ban alcohol because it causes violence to the user's body. Diaper changing stations are only available in the men's changing room; as there are more househusbands than housewives by the year 2050.
Summary
It will become common etiquette for a man to adopt his wife's surname in marriage by the end of the 21st century if he has no post-secondary degree and/or a career in a certified profession (athlete, doctor, lawyer, etc.). Inner-city districts may be dominated by Mega Skyscrapers; home to thousands of poor residents. Many suburban regions will become dominated by househusbands and female service workers.
Love and romance will be declared redundant as the government develops an AI system that automatically appoints two local people of the opposite gender to marry on their 21st birthday. Both spouses would share common background along with belonging to the same socioeconomic standing and political preferences. This will basically nationalize the services that a website like EHarmony.com does now for Americans and makes it mandatory.
Free from the bonds of conservative tyranny that has held them for more than a century, teenagers will become low-level politicians (i.e, aldermen, mayors, Members of Parliament), poker champions, horror movie fans, breadwinners, corporate executives, and eventually wealthier than their parents. Society will assume that the husband will adopt the wife's surname by the year 2050 (unless he plays professional sports or has a job that requires a post-secondary diploma) and everything will be catered around getting the husband to adjust to his new role as his wife's helpmate.
The end result of a globalized matriarchal society would be an all-female global parliament under the guise of the United States of Earth. By the year 2105, women will hold all the government positions, dominate the intelligentsia, and become the legal head of their households. Men will be forced to become househusbands and they will not be allowed to vote in elections or hold a political office.
Matriarchal marriage
A matriarchal marriage is a marriage where the wife is considered to be the head of the household and the sole source of employment-related income. Also in a matriarchal marriage, the husband takes the wife's surname, i.e. Ms. and Mr. Jane Doe instead of Mr. and Mrs. John Smith. The first recorded matriarchal marriage was during the year 2001 in Ohio where Joseph Harkless and Christina Ellison became Ms. and Mr. Christina Ellison. By the year 2045, all married persons under the age of 35 will be expected to be in a matriarchal marriage.
Ms. and Mr. Christina Ellison are a model couple of the future. They are united through a matriarchal marriage and Christina is considered the head of the household. It is unknown whether this couple currently has children or not. In 2001, the marriage caused controversy and the groom's name wasn't changed over to Ellison until 6 months after the wedding day. Mr. Christina (Joseph) Ellison is assumed to be a househusband while Ms. Christina Ellison probably has a well-paying job that allows her to dominate the household affairs. In the future, all women will be liberated women, and expect men to take their last name. We are approaching a maternalistic future where men are prohibited from voting, running for political office, and owning real estate, and this is one of the first steps towards this brave, new world.

A man is never to be independent of female authority. First, he is under his mother’s authority, and then under his wife’s authority. A widower would be under his daughter’s authority, or, if he had no daughters or his daughters were young, he would return to his mother’s authority unconditionally.
Reproduction
As a method of reproduction, human cloning will eventually supplant sexual intercourse for reproductive purposes, just like nanotechnology will gradually supplant traditional agriculture so that foie gras and caviar can be grown for the masses instead of the wealthy elite. However, sexual intercourse will remain for pleasure purposes for the matriarchal hedonistic society of the not-so-distant future. Artificial womb technology is also a part of reproductive cloning, because a woman can freeze her eggs at 25, have a career, then have the eggs unfrozen and placed in a artificial womb when she decides to become a mother.
Matriarchy on Mars
Colonies of Mars will probably be matriarchal and ultimately rely on male pregnancy to realize the goals of their society.
