Project God of War was a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) program that conducted a series of manned missions to Mars from 2024 to 2046. These missions began as orbital ventures that culminated with the first manned landing on Mars on November 28, 2031.
The program, launched in 2024, was the follow up to successful lunar missions in the late 2010s and early 2020s. Had those missions failed, said the Administrator of NASA in 2032, Project God of War "would at least have been postponed by several years". NASA's endeavors on the Moon set the precedent for Project God of War, because both began with unmanned landings such as rovers and probes, followed by manned orbital crews, and ended with manned landings.
Project God of War was classified until 2026, when NASA officials announced that a manned orbital mission for Mars was scheduled later that year. It was decommissioned in 2046 and replaced by Project Odysseus. Project Odysseus was NASA's official colonization program that established bases and settlements on the Moon and Mars.
WORK IN PROGRESS
NASA first conducted three orbital missions to Mars under Project God of War. The following table charts these missions, which ran from 2026 to 2030.
|Date Launched||Date Orbit Achieved||Total Flight Time||Time Spent in Orbit||Date Returned Home||Craft||Total Crew|
|Orbital Mission 1||Nov. 5, 2026||Jun. 2, 2027||6 months, 28 days||2 days, 7 hours||Oct. 26, 2027||Orion IV||6|
|Orbital Mission 2||Feb. 22, 2028||Aug. 29, 2028||6 months, 7 days||3 days, 12 hours||Feb. 7, 2029||Armstrong I||6|
|Orbital Mission 3||Apr. 28, 2029||Oct. 31, 2029||6 months, 3 days||3 days, 11 hours||Apr. 18, 2030||Armstrong II||5|
Following these orbital missions, NASA moved to manned landings. The following table charts their first three landings before they began to prepare for future colonization programs.
|Date Launched||Date Landed||Total Flight||Time Spent on Surface||Date Returned Home||Craft||Crew|
|Landing 1||May 23, 2031||November 28, 2031||6 months, 5 days||5 days, 6 hours||May 2, 2032||Armstrong III||8|
|Landing 2||Jan. 27, 2033||Jul. 23, 2033||5 months, 26 days||5 days, 11 hours||Jan. 15, 2034||Armstrong IV||9|
|Landing 3||Mar. 24, 2035||Aug. 30, 2035||5 months, 6 days||6 days, 10 hours||Mar. 16, 2036||Armstrong V||8|
