Overpopulation

From Future

Overpopulation is the state in which the number of individuals of a species, typically referring to humans, is such that it's requirement of one or more resources exceeds that which it's environment can sustainably provide.

Humans currently consume more fish, timber, fresh water, topsoil, fossil fuels, and chemical elements than the environment can sustainably provide, meaning that the current human population is currently in a state of overpopulation. Though fossil fuels are not an inherently essential resource, food production and transportation has become so oil-dependent that, what was once non-essential has now become essential, until the time that humans gain the will to break that dependence, by which time it will be too late.

Despite the fact that the world is currently overpopulated, there are hundreds of millions of theocratic deliberate breeders who exacerbate the overpopulation problem. Most of said breeders live in Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America, but there are many in the wealthy countries as well. Many of the theocrats in the wealthy countries who support the breeders in the poor countries support charities that go to providing food and education to the children of said theocratic breeders.
