The Nintendo Switch was the seventh major home video game console made by Nintendo, originally released on March 3rd of 2017. It was one of the first home consoles to have portable capabilities; using a dock in order to be played on a television screen, while the main unit can be taken out to be played on the go. Due to its capabilities, Nintendo deems it a "hybrid video game console".  In its first month on the market, it had sold over 2.74 million units - becoming the fastest selling home console in Nintendo history, exceeding expectations.

The Nintendo Switch is mainly remembered for bringing Nintendo back to the spotlight after a significant decline. It brought back old fans, and even brought in many new ones.

History[]

Pre-Release[]

Development[]

During the 5 year lifespan of the Wii U, Nintendo had been experiencing a financial decline - due to the poor sales of the console and weak game library. In response, they began to develop the Switch. To make sure, the Switch had a strong game library, they reached out to many game developers. This helped the Switch gain a strong array of games. In order to make the Switch more appealing to developers, they used the Nvidia Tegra X1 as the system's chipset - as it was easy to program.

Marketing and Promotion[]

Advertisements for the Switch were considerably better than the Wii U's, appealing to a larger range of demographics. During the 51st Super Bowl, Nintendo made their first Super Bowl advertisement.
