New Washington, is the capital of the United Earth. On August 18, 2018, the United Nations General Assembly approved the creation of a capital district upon the request of General Nathan Alder. The capital city is not part of any State, but rather is organized as a unique entity known as the Capital District.
The city and most of the Capital District are all built upon the ruins of the Washington DC Metroplex, the destroyed capital city of the United States. The choice of location was fervently supported by much of the American delegation to the UN before the signing of the constitution that broke up the continental US into the states that would be represented in the Untied Earth itself. The most notable supporter was General Nathan Alder himself, who argued that the location was ideal, as Washington DC did not carry nearly as strong a regional cultural legacy as the other proposed capital cities (among which included Moscow, Rome,Beijing, Tokyo, Taipei, Singapore, London, Paris,Genva,Boston,Cario,Torntno, New York,Chiago and San Francisco),Yet was Notbale compared to other Non-Cultural Cites (Like Nassau,Bermuda,Fargo or Åland)
and as the informal seat of global power had previously lied in Washington DC, it was only logical for it to be formally established under a new city.
The centers of all three branches of the federal government of the United Earth are in the District, including the Congress, President, and Supreme Court. New Washington is home to many monuments and museums, which are primarily situated on or around the Capital Mall. The city hosts the foreign embassy of the Ch'rix, as well as the headquarters of many global NGOs, trade unions, non-profit organizations, lobbying groups, and professional associations.
The city plays host to the World Capital Building, the Supreme Court Building, the White House, as well as the headquarters to federal law enforcement offices, and cabinet level agencies. The city boasts many important museums and monuments to modern human culture, including the Museum of Humanity, the Washington Monument, the Churchill Memorial, the FDR Memorial, the Ghandi Memorial, the Zhukov Monument (built into the Department of Defense), the Jefferson Memorial, the Civil Rights Museum and Martin Luther King Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial,The Nathan Alder Memorial, the Charles de Gaulle Monument, the Norman Borlauge Monument (built into the Department of Agriculture) and many others.
