[edit] Intelligence Gathering?

Two goals:

  • Teach about the future.
  • Teach about future analysis technique.

Question:

  • Is intelligence gathering and interpretation something that we should do here?

Or do we want to leave this more polished (presentation,) and leave that sort of thing to, say, the TaoRiver futures wiki, or whatever?

I think that intelligence gathering is OK as long, as it is immediately useful to the reader. Ideally we should have more "complete" articles, but even if we don't feel up to the task yet, a few paragraphs of introductory information and several relevant links is a good start. As we gather additional information, we should add it into the article, though not by tackling it to the long unsorted list of links in the end, but by incorporating it into the text. IMO, as long as the resulting article can be read, it can stay here.
Stubs are exceptions - it is probably ok to start them with 1-2 relevant links and no commentary at all, but the right way to expand them is by writing something, not adding more links.Paranoid 17:59, 21 Dec 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Concepts page

The Concepts page was created in an attempt to unify the disparate conceptual articles into a single page for easy viewing by beginners. It was compiled from said pages. Please take a look at it and comment.

[edit] Guideline page

The Guideline page was created in an attempt to provide order to the confusion overtaking this wikia. Please take a look at it and comment.

[edit] Hail, Future Wikia!

First off, note that the Wikia messages box currently advertises this site. Due to my efforts. And hopefully we will get several people interested before it changes.

Since my coming to this site, I have made a considerable number of changes to the site. After establishing Concepts and then a Guideline, as well as replacing the main page with contents from my own New Main Page, I have consolidated the ideas into Basics and also created a Standard Timeline for uniting the various near-future pages into a single article.

Therefore, I proclaim that the first mission objective--teaching about futurology--has been achieved. The second mission--near future concepts--is also partially complete.

[edit] wikipedia policy mentions future wikia

A Wikipedia policy page Wikipedia:Wikipedia:What_Wikipedia_is_not#Wikipedia_is_not_a_crystal_ball (shortcut: Wikipedia:WP:FUTURE) now points directly to the future wikia. In effect, part of our mission (or would you say this is a consequence of our mission?) is now to accept "future history" articles that -- merely because they were "future history" -- were rejected from Wikipedia. I expect that to give the future wikia more visibility. --DavidCary 04:20, 27 July 2008 (UTC)
