The United States presidential election of 2036 was the 63rd quadrennial American presidential election, held on Tuesday, November 4, 2036.
After finally accomplishing victory in a campaign for the office of the President - Governor-turned President Rubio faced a tough re-election amidst changing demographics, a divisive right-wing, and failing trickle-down economy.
His opponent, New York Senator Hakeem Jeffries, served as the most progressive Democratic ticket in years - as Hakeem Jeffries and former Green Party nominee Nina Turner campaigned on everything from universal healthcare, to an assault weapons ban, to "taking down Wall Street".
Primaries[]
President Rubio was met with a primary challenge by American Identitarian Party leader Richard Spencer, but swiftly defeated the fascist with Rubio's strongly more apealing message of unity and patriotism, and with support of every GOP member of Congress.
New York Senator Hakeem Jeffries faced a major challenge in former California Governor Gavin Newsom - but was ultimately the victor as Jeffries had greater outreach to minorities and progressives, compared to Newsom's establishment Democrat-leaning agenda.
The Libertarian Party once again nominated Republican Representative Austin Petersen, from Missouri. The Green Party co-endorsed the Jeffries/Turner ticket, and the American Identitarian Party nominated lawyer Augustus Sol Invictus as their nominee.
General Election[]
For the first time since President George H.W. Bush - an incumbent President was defeated by a challenger. A failing economy and changing demographics allowed the Jeffries/Turner ticket to pick up victories in Nevada, Arizona, Texas, Michigan, and Maine.
The American Identitarian Party reached 4% in the state of South Carolina, 7% in Mississippi, and 10% in West Virginia. After the election, the Democratic, Green, Libertarian, and Republican parties came together to publicly disavow the growing popularity of the party, and warn the populace of its rising influence in American politics, with the party gaining victories in city council, school board, and village elections nationwide.
