History[]

Populist Era (2016-2030)[]

The Populist Era was an era when populist ideologies were on the rise around the world, including the United Kingdom. The era started in the United Kingdom when the United Kingdom voted 52-48 to leave the European Union. The United Kingdom left the European Union in 2019, despite the Prime Minister Theresa May wanted to stay in the European Union. May would later step down as Prime Minister and the Tories replaced her with Boris Johnson, after defeating Sajid Javid and Jacob Rees Mogg. Johnson would be a unpopular prime minister, but he was more approved than his predecessor. Johnson would be defeated in the 2022 UK Elections by the Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn, Corbyn was a far-left populist and socialist who was popular among the British people mainly due to the unpopularity of the Conservative Party.

As Corbyn was prime minister, he enforcement anti-discrimination laws, such as the Stop Internet Hate Act, which made it illegal to criticize Islam on the internet if you are a British citizen. This cried outrage from the free speech right, saying it was against human rights. Corbyn would be unpopular after the act and he and his party would be defeated in the 2027 UK Elections by the UKIP leader Nigel Farage. This would be the first time in years neither the Tories or Labour controlled the majority of seats. Farage would be a popular prime minister, serving two terms as PM. Although the rest of the United Kingdom was happy with Farage, Scotland was very anti-Farage. Scotland would vote to leave the United Kingdom, 60-40 in 2028 and the Republic of Scotland was formed.
