After a somewhat-successful campaign for the 2016 Presidential Election, Evan McMullin decided to run again in the 2020 US Presidential Election (Pence Timeline). However, instead of running as an independent, he ran in the Constitution Party Primary.

Constitution Party Primary

The Constitution Party Primary consisted of only three contestants: Evan McMullin, Mindy Finn and Darrell Castle. Darrell Castle, the chosen nominee for the 2016 Election, was expected to come out on top. However, Evan McMullin was able to get widespread support throughout the state of Idaho, gaining him the majority of the votes.

Running Mate

Evan McMullin knew picking a running mate would be one of his toughest decisions yet. But one by one, he narrowed his choices down to three candidates: Shirley Phelps-Roper, Mindy Finn (his running mate in 2016), and Glenn Beck. Initially, McMullin was going to pick Shirley Phelps-Roper due to her aggressiveness and experience as a lawyer. However, he quickly backpedaled on his decision due to her involvement with Westboro Baptist Church and military/soldier funeral picketing. He then chose his alternative, Glenn Beck, a fellow LDS/Mormon. But Glenn Beck declined the offer, which led McMullin to his "last-resort" pick, Wilford Brimley, also a Utahan with an LDS faith.
