2020 presidential election[]
Donald Trump announced that he would seek reelection on January 20, 2017, the day he was sworn in as president. Donald Trump's reelection campaign ran on the idea that everything was great, which was unpopular because his approval ratings were very low. Donald Trump had two challengers in the Republican primary, former United States Senator of Arizona Jeff Flake and former Ohio Governor John Kasich. Donald Trump was able to defeat Flake and Kasich in the primary to be the 2020 Republican Nominee. Donald Trump later lost to Democrat Amy Klobuchar in the general election.
After the Amy Klobuchar win in the 2020 election, Donald Trump refused to concede and started tweeting "the election was rigged!" and "the Illegals voted me out!". Donald Trump even demanded a recount, on December 19, 2020, votes were recounted and Amy Klobuchar still won the election, even without the Illegal votes.
