War is the mother of invention, as many know quite well. The World Wars and the Cold War both led to dramatic and world-shaking discoveries that changed the course of history forever. In addition, warfare dictates the politics of the antebellum periods, and also impacts on societies and economies. These too must therefore be analyzed.
