The 2023 United Kingdom General Election occurred when the Labour opposition under Ed Balls brought down the Conservative Minority Government under Boris Johnson. The Election resulted in a majority government for Johnson, along with third party status for Labour, for the first time in over 100 years.

The Labour party broke apart, and 21 of its MPs formed the "Socialist Labour Party" under Katy Clark. The rest remained in the Labour Party, led by Pamela Nash.
